I didnt think so!

I started on this project a few years ago and am finally getting close. I wanted the stance and seat height of a rigid but wanted to keep the shocks for my aging back. I cut it to pieces and changed the shock location, stretched the swingarm and the backbone. I got rid of the stock downtubes made the oil tank and battery tray under the swingarm & a bunch of other crap.

Im at the stage of wire, fire and ride and it will be done. Well they are never really done and I never did a build thread for it so heres a photo dump of where my '03 Sportster is at...

Nice bike! did you make that motor mount your self?

corn
12-21-2011, 9:42 PM
Let's get some details on those engine mounts and the ribs on the cam cover...

I scratch made the mounts from flat iron stock. The fins are just alumi-lead and shaped. Im no aluminum welder & knew Id warp and ruin it If I tried welding them. I pounded the velosity stack out of a piece of scrap exhaust pipe and painted it to look like anodized aluminum. Made the Tbars from some scrap 1" DOM, cut down the stock eyebrow, made the seat pan and had Jarod at HardLuck cover it. I bought a front fatboy wheel (because they are cheaper) and machined some spacers, drilled and tapped out the bolt holes so it would work on the rear. Whipped up a choke cable mount, I needed a frame jig, so I made that too. Im broke so Ive got to be a cheap ass and use what I find laying around...

bravo dude it is a sick fucking bike. the one thing on this bike that really hit's gome is the straight backbone from the neck all the way back. thats how the shop i work at who started proper choppers built their frames and it is a sleek and timeless design always proven to look badass. other project you are working on is looking equally cool. keep up the good fab work dude.

I started on another bright idea today. I want to smooth up the rear wheel in our brake lathe at work sometime but figured something will need to be done with the front wheel then, so I played with some sandpaper for an hour or so.

Lets see...13 spokes, both sides= 26 sections. Took me an hour or so to do one so I should be mental by the time Im done with the other 25. Why do I keep doing this to myself for something that I might be the only one that notices?

love the details and craftsmanship, my faves are the cam cover , the rear end. pipes. etc..

stance is killer, also love how the battery box kind of fills in that empty space that sportys have between the reen tire and the swingarm mount. makes it look so much more finished, but without drawing attention to it, its like background noise, if ya get what im sayin.

keep up the great work. truly an insperation.

I took a picture of the wheel for you today. Ive got this side looking pretty good and the other side all sanded. Just need to polish the other side and do a little touch up work to it. Then its on the the rear wheel! Doing other small projects during the loss of wheel motivation.

Crazy fab in the rear end. I'm not quite sure how I feel about the visual part though, it's like ALMOST a hard tail with the back bone angle then hits the shocks and is an abrupt angle change. It might grow on me though! I can appreciate the amount of work that went into doing it and applaud your conviction to do it!

What exhaust is that? I've seen it on a few bikes and really like the drag bike quality of it.

Hi there

I have read the article on this bike in the September Horse edition. Congratulations this bike is truly unique. I am new to this forum but I can already see i will be a frequent participant. I just finish building my second sportster I will be posting some pics very soon. I am now looking at a third project and I must say your bike has inspired me. I love what you did to the frame and I would love to pick your brain as I am very new to bike building. Gear case cover is out of this world, did you modify it or was it Chopper Dave in Long beach?

first of all, this is killer. great work and fab skills :killerjob: now i need help understanding this...how is your clearance so low on that fender being that its still a swingarm bike? i see the mounts to the swingarm from the fender but i feel like one major pothole and your fender is going straight into your tailbone? its probably super obvious but i cannot figure it out. :banghead:

corn
02-13-2013, 11:55 AM
So far so good. Potholes and all. The fender runs up between the frame rails. If it hit anything, it would be the seat. Gonna keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best! :)

Here's a few pics of the latest version. Gonna sell the lake pipes and make something different soon. Put my standby pipes on for a while...

You plan to sell the original white 2 into 1? If so, please PM. Totally into those pipes! Thank you.

I sandblasted it and painted it black but it could be changed back to white pretty easily. I will sell it for $200 plus shipping

thats cheap for that pipe. anyways, i think you ought to pull out the wallet and paint the thing. i liked the racey look as well and i liked the red but a nice ass paint job never goes out of style......

Dig your whole bike but especially like the upsweeps, aimed right in the window of the cell phone talking SUV drivers.
