Nice score. I'd keep the apes, on it over the clubman's. I've only ran into a couple of deals like this, and everytime I don't have the money to capitalize on them. I have access to a 75 CB550 for $400 but am still on the fence about picking it up. I could definitely use the money to finish my current projects, but it'd be nice to have a fourth bike in the stable. Especially one as close to bone stock with very few miles on it.

yeh I didn't have the money for this one haha I sold my prized guitar on the way to get it. offered the guy the money before i even had it and then an extra hundred to keep it for me and still had to beat another guy to it and I was 100 miles further away haha.

Played around with the BF when i got home last night. not much I can work on mechanically until I get my carb parts ordered. so I started playing around with junk I had laying around. a front fender on the the rear and some BMX bars that I actually truly think i'm gonna run. I really dig them and i may get some yellow tinted lexan and make a little shield to go in the middle. I absolutely CAN'T stand rectangular headlights but its the only one I had laying around so its the mock light...looks ridiculous.

so for one reason or another the bowl to the left carb is missing. what would be the best route to getting another? should I just get another used carb? I don't think I can buy just a bowl but I may be wrong.

nice scoot for the cash!!!!!!!!!!!!! i cant find nothin in that price range around here that doesnt spit out a dead squirrel and a couple of bud caps when you try to kick to bitch over. it looks to me like you should keep the apes.... they look like they fit you more than they fit the bike... and thats all that really matters.... right?

Thanks a million Lugie! I don't have that Brake lever you needed sorry but if you need any of those engine parts let me know!

lugie
11-19-2009, 3:29 PM
Good to hear you got them, hope they have everything you might need. Next time I get arrested in WY I expect you to bail me out Or at least get my bike out of impound...haha.

earz
11-19-2009, 4:07 PM
Lugie, what brake lever are you needing? I've got the whole drum brake setup off an XS that I'd trade for a left side BS38 body.

lugie
11-19-2009, 4:10 PM
need the splined lever on the rear drum, if you have one that would kick ass. I don't have anymore bs38's but I have some 34's.

earz
11-19-2009, 4:34 PM
Well crap, that's the only piece of the rear brake system that has been claimed already. If I run across one, I'll let you know.

With the Carb parts Lugie Hooked me up with It put me back on track. Keep'n the Karma going and sending one of the carb bodies to Earz.

on another thread here I was bitch'n about Reg/rects being eff'n expensive. Earz produced a link of how to wire up you own so I said to myself "Choppy you mangy bastard, looks like the solution" So on my way to work I stopped at radioshack and autozone for the pieces I needed and wired it up on break at work with some borrowed supplies. 23 dollars and less than an hour later, badda bing!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v676/Chaseroo/untitled-24.jpg

I'll go buy a connector tomorrow wire it up and give her a kick.

turns out my battery is shot and this town sucks for shit like that so I have to wait for my girl to bring one up from Utah friday.

I had the tank off to rewire my coils and was playing around.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v676/Chaseroo/xs650003-1.jpg

I kinda like it but it makes it look like the whole Detroit Bros Dropseat rapido tank craze that i'm not a fan of.

corydjarman
12-01-2009, 6:06 PM
keep this tank and those bars or use the other tank and other bars. wasnt feeling the mixture.

Few updates on this thing. wiring and such tail light is a signal from a '60's honda 50cc and the headlight bucket was some crazy flashlight i'm fitting with a regular bike headlamp and those bitchen grips are off an ancient floor buffer haha.

I find myself saying this all the time... "why cant i find a fucking deal like that"

ChoppyGee
04-09-2010, 3:46 PM
Ok So i cannot fucking get this thing to spark. Replacing the supposedly new coils (Earz is trading me some for a Mikuni) and ordering some points for mikesxs.

I have decided to make it jockey shift and suicide clutch and instead of using a cable set up for the clutch i'm making a rig that goes straight to that little shaft that comes outside the case.

and my new shift knob/kill switch.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v676/Chaseroo/xslightshift002.jpg Its a vintage Rystl microphone. I've actually used it in many bands for many years and its finally died but its just too cool to sit in the bottom of my music gear bin. you can sorta see the bits that will soon be my clutch set up.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v676/Chaseroo/xslightshift003.jpg

now i'm going to hook up the On/Off switch on the microphone to be the actual kill switch of the bike..cool little touch i though.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v676/Chaseroo/xslightshift005.jpg

I've also repurposed a nice piece of brass which was once a piece to a large commerical door into one part of my new headlight mount (working on the base right now)http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v676/Chaseroo/xslightshift010.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v676/Chaseroo/xslightshift008.jpg
I think its pretty rad but i'm not sure i like how far forward it puts the lamp i'll probably change that.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v676/Chaseroo/xslightshift007.jpg
maybe you can tell but i started cleaning up the engine with Scotchbrite and Automatic Transmission Fluid. I like the look and the texture its give it.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v676/Chaseroo/xslightshift009.jpg

now i just gotta buckle down and get this fuck'n thing to fire.

Im lovin the mic shifter and the tail light.. Your handlebar window needs some lexan like you mentioned before... I think making a mini windshield out of it is a great idea.

ChoppyGee
04-11-2010, 9:46 PM
so i snagged a small piece of clear Lexan i wanted colored but free is free. I'm told that if you heat it up its pretty easy to shape so i'm going to try to get it to fit my handlebar window and then bubble it outwards to make it a little convex so its not just a flat piece of plastic. more on this later

Also i think i'm going to switch the front end to an inverted setup off of a late model sportbike so i'll see if i can find one for a good price.
