I know windshields suck, but I think I may have come up with a pretty cool and low buck alternative. Thats where all you guys come in. I don't know about you, but at times on long ass rides I have sometimes wished I had some type of a windshield. Well I was muddling around in my garage looking through some old stuff. I came across an old flat competition face shield for a open face helmet. I was looking at it trying to figure out if I should keep it or throw it away. Then I thought I could make a small wind screen out of it. Here are some pics of the idea. The first pic is of what the shield is designed for in case I didn't describe it good enough, the other pics are my "prototype design". Let me know what you think, good or bad.

Why not just rock the face shield helmet?

I kinda don't like the look of it, but if it works then run that SOB. The whole point is function right?!? Maybe if it works good enough you can mold it a little better and paint it. Right now it looks like an upside-down faceshield strapped on.

The shield is a 5 snap style, and my Biltwell helmet only has 3 snaps.

Have you rode with it yet?? Doesnt look like it will do a whole lot for wind deflection

Haven't gotten around to riding with it yet, just put it on an hour ago. When I do, I'll let you know if it works.

I was going to say the same thing. Is it actually going to deflect anything? I could see it if you were tummy rubbin with your tank, but doesn't look like you are. haha

Why not just make a fairing for it? You can make a custom removable fairing that you can put on when you go on long rides and that way it might form a little better to your bike and flow better.

I think it actually looks kinda rad but, I fear it may have to opposite effect than the one you're looking for. Maybe not but all i know is if have a small bundle bungeed to my bike at that level its like a scoop and amplifies the wind i get in the face hahah. Good luck, very resourceful anyways.

Well my reasoning was, the shield is small and compact plus its clear so you can still see the bars and stuff. I have to give it a test run to see if it even works. Then I'll know weather or not I want to pursue the idea any further. I was thinking about painting it but I think it looks less out of place while its still clear, because its less noticeable.

Not to hijack this thread - but do you have any tips on this. My buddy has been talking about doing this but we are not sure where to start or what materials to use.

Going to have to agree with some others here. Don't know how much good that setup will do for you.
Maybe try getting a bubbleshield on Ebay or at a swapmeet that's the three snap kind.

If your board shave your fender mounts of your fork legs. I'd pass on the jimmy rigged Vetter fairing. Won't do much/ anything. If you want it to look right make a small sheet medal fairing and fit it to the head light nothing fancy just to make it look like it was ment to be. No some road side i need to survive bug deflector. Nice bars

I've never made one myself but just make a mock up out of chipboard or cardboard to get the shape and look you want and then transfer it to sheet metal.
I understand wanting to keep the look of the bars cause they are pretty nice looking. Maybe use something else to mold around the bars that clear so it looks a little more natural.

Yeah, the more I look at it the more I agree with you guys. I was a little bored, and I'm sure the PBR's didn't help either. I would like to get a small race looking fairing but I'm not sure it would suit the style and look of my bike. Kinda like this one, but then it hides the bars, and my drilled eye brow.

Yep, I can't have anything on my bars. Like Choppy said it just puts all the wind right in your face and creates some sort of weird buffeting.

Looks like a ghetto-SOA thing-a-ma-bob! hahahahaha :p

I agree with the alot of the previos statements, I think it'll put the wind directly into your face. The shit reality is, if you want to keep your face out of the rain/wind/and whatever-else you've gotta go with a full face. I use my 3/4 with a bubble shield and it's like night and day when riding in the colder months here in NH.

With that being said I'm planning on running an MX style full facer next year...well, if I get a running fucking bike I will.

Yeah, I couldn't do it, I wouldn't have any snacks on a long ride, I love gnats in the teeth:p
