View Full Version : advice on triumph purchase...

so, i've been talking off and on to this guy with a 66 triumph 500cc
i haven't seen any photos yet as he has been slacking off getting them to me.
he originally told me that it was a runner, but then told me later that it was actually in pieces w/the motor partially dis-assembled to replace a head gasket or something like that.
he also mentioned that he had done some welding/modifications to the frame to put a bobber seat on it. not hardtailed. (this part is scary)
when we got down to the money he said he had $1600 in it, and that is what he is looking to get out of it.
is this guy smokin' crack? because i think he is...

what would you guys say(without seeing photos)but with the details i've given...
what would be a good number to throw at this guy.
i think he is asking waaayyyy too much, but maybe i'm off.

Nah man your spot on ...I love the well it ran last time I parked it 3 years ago and well before I tore the motor apart geeesh dont ya just love people......

I dunno man you can buy NICE!!!!! 500 already hardtailed correctly running and ready to go for
2k all day long.... I know of a 57 500 springer forks all that were I live for 1700 ...SO let that be your judge ...Plus I have found out if someone wont or doesnt send pics or they do the picture from 10 feet away ...that is a sign it is junk or needs a ton of work ....Anytime someone wont show up close what they have ...something is usually up with it....

stay clear of it.
besides,you want a 650.
the 500's are gutless on the highway, but great for stop light to stop light.

i bought a complete damn near running hardtailed 1968 650 for $950.

keep on craigslist. the deals are out there.
