How exactly does this work. I read some about it on the main page, but was unsure of the actual break down. Is it based on the Administration, your contributions, your beard, the size of your gut?

I mean...I guess it really doesn't matter, but it's a cool idea nonetheless.

As far as I can tell every time you start a new thread or post in a thread you get one mile. If there are other ways I don't know.

Anyone?

i think this mileage thingy is a cool idea. i'm really liking this place and i know we're still in "beta" testing stage but i keep having to log back in everytime i go into a different section. but that's what these testings are for.

Your mileage may vary, very, berry?

Whenever you contribute to the site, you get miles. Post to a thread, upload photos to your profile... etc. The more you do on the site, the more you get. Lame post remove miles so be careful.

:) j/k on the last part.

So how many did you get docked for this one? :-)

I think your mileage goes up whenever you add something in your profile etc as opposed to just post counts, I think thats why I keep getting people adding me as a 'friend' as it boosts that members mileage.

It goes as a point both ways. If you accept a friend or invite a friend.

You guys are all mostly right.

We still have to tweak the milestones for prizes so that people are winning free $100 handlebars every 7 weeks, but otherwise things are going smoothly.

In a couple weeks we'll add ChopCult sticker kits to the Miles store, and every one of you motherscratcher will get their dick skinners on these babies... you just gotta put in the time.

And by "time," we mean "quality posts," relevant photos, etc.

Don't abuse the freebies or you'll fuck it up for everyone else.

Again, we're trying to build a dick-free society here one dude at a time, and so far I think it's working.

You guys have been awesome, and the forum and network are shaping up nicely.

Let's post some events on the calendar, start some regional riding crews, etc.

BTW, Bill and I have the ability to add random mileage bonuses to members when we see them doing cool shit.

For instance, I'm starting a photo contest in a couple weeks and the first prize for this is 5,000 chopcult miles.

That'll buy a lot of dope shit!

Stay tuned to the news feed for more info on photo contest as it develops...

I have to admit I was a hard sell on this feature at first. I just thought it was gay. Then Fredo bought a ticket to NYC with his Amex points and I had an epiphany, grown men can put this to use! It's just a way to incentivise people to participate and like HalWade said, someday we'll probably start handing out bonuses too for super good content. The plan for the Miles store is to put some used stuff in there too. We'll add some old or desireable parts from our personal stashes as one-time deals. First one to reach that mileage ends up with a cool old tank, helmet, collectible bit, etc. As we create simple merch like stickers and t-shirts, you can count on that stuff being added at some reasonable amounts. We couldn't figure out how to give the stuff away for miles and charge real money for shipping, so we're even going to eat those costs. Hope a few people enjoy it.

I really like this idea. A great incentive to keep most of the bullshit and dick swinging out.

Just a query bill, what about the international boys?

(I don't mind paying the shipping by the way, I just don't want to be left out altogether!)

I personally think it's cool, and if nothing else, it helps keeps people on the site and active.

Good idea.

The more I read about it the more psyched i am. At first I thought it was a little weird, but it really does make sense.

The only real problem I can see is if someone spams the forum in order to quickly amass points. I assume this would be one of the few situations where the mods would step in?

BigDawg
08-06-2009, 1:45 PM
Yeah, I'm assuming the mods can deduct mileage as well.

I saw a guy with more posts than mileage earlier. I guess he pissed off Bill or Magoo.

Yeah. I would just hate to see the mileage system removed becuase of some idiots cheating their way to free stuff.

I think its gay too. I think the friend deal is gay also.

But

I think it's awesome that you guys(biltwell dudes) have put your time and $$ into making a cool place.

And, I thank you guys for that.

I think if someone is caught cheating, they shoud be kicked back down to zero miles.

billdozer
08-06-2009, 8:02 PM
Yeah, if we find someone obviously gaming the system to the detriment of us or other users we'll just boot they ass or wipe out their credit. I do worry about a few of you unemployed insomniacs with internet addictions, hopefully there aren't too many of you! It's all in fun, so we'll just fire and adjust as we see it develop.

Don't worry about the international stuff, if it gets out of hand we'll figure out a way to charge for shipping or something, either way you won't be denied because of geography.

CabritoLoco

i think the mileage thing is kinda kewl. i do see where it could lead to "friend whores", just adding people to rack up miles. hell, i've had 3 friends requests today from people i have no idea who they are.

that being said, i also think it's a good concept you biltwell guys got going on, and it's up to the members to self-police the ranks and keep things on the up and up around here.

thanks again for this joint, i think with time it's gonna be the juke.

Halwade

You know what would be REALLY gay?

If dudes gamed the system to get free shit, added friends indiscrimately to earn miles, or posted loads of stupid comments and photos to scam the system.

Bill and I vascillated for a long time on this feature, but decided in favor of it for the reason Bill already mentioned:

People who show dedication to anything (sandwich shops, credit cards, airlines, shipping-material suppliers, girlfriends) deserve a little reciprocation for their support.

If you think it's gay, tell us and we'll disconnect your odometer.

If you think it's cool, use it in the spirit for which it was intended and we'll send you free stuff when you've earned it.

Hey--it's the least we can do.

And as far as the whole "friend/social network" thing is concerned, I pushed BIll hard for this because I am a huge fan of the calendar and classifieds functions on the community software.

If this scene is going to survive and thrive in these tough economic times, everyone needs all the free marketing and promotional tools they can get.

Has anyone checked out the events (http://www.chopcult.com/browse_events.php) feature on the Community? It's awesome. I'm getting ready to throw up a couple rides, overnighters, and barhops as we speak.

You can search this thing by event type, and if you start an event of your own, you can invite all your friends.

That sounds gay when you type it on a message board, but then again, so does saying "message board."

Remember guys, we're talking about motorcycles on the Internet...

When you get right down to it, that's like talking about porn with your friends in the garage while you're old lady diddles herself with a zuccini in the bedroom.

I hate to bring this back to the top, but it was some good reading, and I had a question.

If you change your profile pic, does your odometer get knocked back to zero?
