View Full Version : 1981 XS650 My first bike

I bought this XS650 along with a 78 parts bike back in April. I think it came out pretty decent for a first go round. I'm getting ready to build a rigid bike out of the 78. Big thanks to Chris from Infernal Combustion Design for not only selling me the bike, but also giving a good amount of technical help. Also thanks to Jim in Cleveland for the helping hand(before he moved away) and the sweet boots. Oh, and Kelly for telling me Yamahas aren't cool, and my girlfriend Brandi for not giving me a hard time for buying motorcycle parts, and starting the bike in the house.

Thanks for the good words, I'm pretty proud of the way it came together. Problem is now I can't stay off of the thing.

ride the hell out of it! looks nice man. whats the teeth count on your rear sprocket?

that lacework is outrageous!! Is that off a gun or from a can? Top work.

The rear sprocket is a 34 tooth, looking to pick up a 30 tooth in the future. I sprayed the lace with duplicolor spray cans. I was going to urathane clear but had some adhesion issues between the primer and base coat... so I left it be, I figure I'll repaint it again in a few months. I'm stoked on all of the possitive feedback on the lace, thinkin about trying with a grown up gun next time.
