found a listing on tulsa craigslist for a "bsa 600 motor $100"
went and met him in OKC today and got the engine minus the head plus a bunch of other random bits and pieces...

the dude couldn't tell me what the motor was so i was kinda in the blind on even buying it.
i had one cell phone pic to even go by.
anyways i got it...the serial # reads A65D...and i'm pretty sure it's a 68...i've done some googling and found that it's a Lighting Rocket motor..supposed to be BSA's racier/sportier bike, with a hotter engine.

anyone know any history to these motors/bikes?

yeah that engine belongs in my 68 frame... so you can just mail it on over. can't go wrong for a $100. i think the difference was slightly hoped up cams but still a dual carbed 650cc like a regular lightning, and then subtle chassis differences but i'm not sure.

yah, that's what i've been reading. you're spot on.
the dude who had it before must of been "cutting edge"
the sidecovers are really screwed up from him going crazy with a wire wheel on them.
but the rest of the engine looks really good and moves freely.

Nice find! I agree, the "D" stands for something with the cams, I think I read that on some BSA restorers website awhile back. Something about higher performance cams, rods and pistons I think.
