saw a shadow recently that was being hard tailed. cut the upper strut section and just welded to the swing arm. you can't stretch the frame at all, but otherwise it looked pretty cool.

I cant figure out how to put a pic in here, but you can see by profile pic. Its a cx500 shaft drive.

I think shaft drives are the shit, but on chops they can look fugly more than not. I dig not having to worry about tension, wear, busted pins or links, sand, small children, black holes, she-males ... then again all ive owned is one bike, and its a shaft.

i don't like posting other ppl's chops but this one is worth it. I found this on the JJ long ago and saved every pic i could get. i wish i knew the guy's name because i get several ppl every month emailing me if i know how to chop a shafty and this guy did the best job ever.

it is a Suzuki GS850 with a removable sleeve on the shaft side that allows for rear wheel removal.

weird.

But..... since I've seen (running) shaft drive goldwingers on CL for 200 bucks...... It's might be just weird enough.

So I guess I'd have to go home Chad? HA!

Not alot of top end, good torque though, and that crazy engines catches everyones eyes. nothing better than pulling up next to a bunch of chromed out cookie cutter piece of shits, and everyone is looking at my bike or my buddies shitboxes, While all the dudes with there OCC shirts on are moaning and grumbling from the bar that nobody noticed there new chrome skull handlegrips !! Oh ya, how do you post pics on here? Thanks.

Sure you can stretch the frame....
Drive shafts can be made longer.....simply
take it to the drive shaft shop and they can make it any length ya need
Anything is possible.....Never say it can't, then it can't....for you, but then when that one decided that it can and did......it's cool. Chop on brother-man

Hii Leww , nice to meet u brow

The engine cover part (valve cover / magnet cover) is actually gloss base coat , but you must paint as thick as possible to avoid engine become overheat.

For the engine, I use high temperature spray paint
and don't forget to use sand paper on edge of air fins to release heat faster

To all who find it offensive, get over it. It was a long time ago and none of you were prisoners in the death camps and none of us who don't find it offensive were guards there. We just find the M/C and rebel nastalga of it cool. I think I'll paint my brain bucket like a big Confederate flag with swastikas instead of stars and a Big FTW on the back.

With a swastika painted on your bike you are inviting nothing less my good man.

Don't take it personal, I have friends that have swastikas tattooed - and I tell them the same thing - -call it what you like, good sir, but tell it how it is......

It was actually meant as a compliment, in as much as - - - -At least you have the balls to call it what it is, and not bullshit about "good luck."

I understand the theological and symbolical connotation of the symbol, it has nothing to do with looking in the "monitor."

You're trying to be offensive, then get upset when someone tells you that you're offensive. Fairly sensitive, wouldn't you say?

So you're going to paint a symbol of slavery, then embellish said symbol of slavery with a symbol of genocide? And expect people to NOT think your a bigot?

Nope, man you got me all wrong here. Here is my deal with it, for me it's a rebellious act against racest and profiling. See I can't stand people who take things that happened in the past and get on there soap box and look at me like I had something to do with it or I owe them something. When the fact is there a very few still alive that even had anything to do with the Nozi death camps and as for slavery, abolished a long time ago. All I am saying is move on from the past don't get but hurt over petty shit like swasticas and Confederate flags unless it is put out there for harm. If we dwell on the wrongs of the past, peace in the future is impossible. And I had nothing to do with it and I don't owe anyone a damn thing because of it.

Exactly. Maybe but I don't think the old grey beards ran swasticas, rebel flags, iron crosses and all that other shit because of it's literal meaning but mostly for there rebeliousness and shock factor while exercising there freedom of speech mostly the same reasons bikers run it today. Anyway yeah I dig building choppers too so lets get back to it. Never really eyed any shaft drive chops till today in this thread. Digging em.

LOL! Well, I suppose we're all going to piss off someone, sometime. I had a guy get irate with me for "Cutting up a Perfectly Good Stock Honda 750." If only he had seen what I started with....I guess my greater point was this: Everyone has their hot button. For a great many people, the Swastika is it. I could care less about the symbol. I live in Idaho, and up north we have a group of these skin head, racist, pieces of sh*t, constantly stirring up trouble. And they LOVE displaying their Swastikas. So it's not much of a jump for anyone around here to see it on your bike, and decide you're just like THEM. That's what I was trying to point out, in a somewhat sarcastic manner. I remember seeing bumper stickers in Easy Rider magazine back in the 70's..."Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki. From the folks who brought you Pearl Harbor." I guess they had their issues too! Seeing a Japanese battle flag painted on a gas tank doesn't bother me in the least. But there are still a few elderly American vets out there who were POW's in Japan. I'll bet they cringe every time they see such things. Just be aware that symbols are just what they mean. I get very weary of having the same conversations over and over. That's why I avoid symbols in general. Well, other than the occasional "Flying Eyeball", and "Von Dutch Hates You" on my helmet. I rather enjoy THAT conversation.....! Oh, and there's still nothing wrong with your drive shaft.

MY current Shafty: Still building or Assembling whichever term you prefer.

Not really a "bobber" but modified some. It actually has 2 Shafts. A drive shaft and a Turbo Impeller and Compressor shaft.

Maxim 650.

lots of nice scoots in here, I have a friend building a silverwing, chop, however, he has designed loops to give illusion of a hart tail, & will toss saddlebags over, at 67 years young, & being in a wheelchain a year ago, from falling through a roof, he has no desire to ride a rigid, he has thought long & hard, but his back says no.

right now he is planning to lengthen the wheel base, and driveshaft, & lightly chop the front, I will try to get some pics, as I will be doing the welding for him, I will see if I can get him to check this site out if he does the computer much.

I had a love / hate affair with shaft drives, I had a old KZ shaft, & hated the lift on accelerating, & drop on decel, opposite all other bikes, but otherwise, I loved not adjusting chain, just check spline grease during tire changes. some guys tell me they dont behave bad anymore?

Later,
Randy

I like how hardtailed shaftdriven bikes accelerate. There is no power lost up in the suspension and the shifts are soooo smooth without a chain. But the downfalls are def there. To extend the swingarm takes a lot of welding, balancing of the drive shaft and fabing the tunnel. Chan drive is so much easier and versatile.

What's wrong with something looking "homemade"? If the guy who rides it likes it, that's all that matters. Who gives a fuck if the rest of the world doesn't.

I wouldn't consider myself a bike shop. I'm a business that sells tail lights and build bikes for myself on the side. Some customers just hit me up to help customize their bikes. I'm just a garage builder and I don't claim to be any kind of pro builder. Every day is a learning lesson and I just do the best I can with what I have. At the time I didn't feel confident with chopping out the backbone so I mounted it on top. If that's considered shade tree then my bad. I didn't realize you guys were so pro.

Looking good Dude.

I'm building a 900c too. Any trouble bolting up the Sporty tank? I'm going the same route eventually.

Ever think about doing a hand shift for the high/low range?

Thanks for the compliments. Bolting up the tank was easy peasy. If you use a Frisco tank it's a matter of welding bungs to the backbone. The petcocks sit down in front of that rear gusset. Eventually I'll ditch the two outer backbones. I had thought about a hand shift for the hi/lo, if anything just to clean it up a bit. I honestly hardly use lo range.

I ran that tire on the back of my Intruder 1400. Only got 5k-6k out of it though with no burnouts. It looks cool as hell, and handles great, but for a car tire it should get a ton more miles than it does.
