View Full Version : "Hal Bender" CB 550-4 Project

This is my first attempt of putting together a bike. Below are pix of the general mock-up. A few things I plan on changing. First off I'm likely gonna go with z-bars or drag bars. I also plain on running a double thin white wall on the rear.

Here is my question for you all. Im a little concerned about the rear frame rake. It seems awfully stretched out (with a large amount of space between battery and rear fender) A friend of mine has been doing the fabrication work. He has built a few other bikes and he does nice work. Aesthetically the rear just looks to raked. Opinions? Ideas? Etc....

You would know better than I if the welds and gussets are sufficient or not. However, in my opinion I would think some rear bracing of some sort would be needed.

My photoshop sucks but you get the gist of needed bracing.

what if you recut your axle plates so the axle could slide in from the front of the plate. would move your wheel forward a few inches. may offset the long look of the rear.

I think you guys hit the nail on the head. Definitely gonna add the extra support to the rear of the frame and looking into changing the axle cut outs around

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i173/soltysolt1/STP67478.jpgI think that your bike is on its way. I did something similar with my CB550. I ride this bike like I stole it and I have no worries about the structural integrity. More supports never hurts.

After some deliberation I decide I'm gonna cut off the hardtail and start over. Hopefully some holiday o/t will pay for the redesign
