My one and only bike right now is an '05 Triumph T100 and since I don't see a project bike falling into my lap in the near future I'm messing with some various ways to customize it. I know there are some of you out there who have modified hinkley bonnies so toss some pics up here of what you've got.

To start it off here's one I saw at Greasebag '09. A Bonnie Black with the rear fender removed, lowered via '72 Bonnie shock casings used with the stock hinkley springs, ford model A style rear tail light, different handlebars, etc. (unfoturnately I don't have any great pics)...

Looks great. That's exactly the look I'm going for. I will be adding the fork gaiters up front and going with a blacked out rear shock setup. Powder coating the rims and hubs is a possibility too.

I had a new Bonnie, I loved it. Fork gaitors always look good on them, and definitely change out the air filters and pipes.

Just to clarify, that Bonnie Black isn't mine, just one I saw at Greasebag.

This is mine (though the bike isn't up to date in the pics). I've since added emgo reverse cones and rejetted the carbs...

Next up is to get rid of the obnoxiously huge turn signals and put on a better looking tail light.

Nice, I had emgos on mine, they sound much better. Also the solo seat they make is nice, much more comfortable than the stocker. I also replaced the black plastic gauge cups with stainless steel thermos caps from walmart...

additional inspriation: http://lcfabrications.com/
specifically the TT Deluxe and the Bonnie.
Probably more modified than you're looking to go at the moment, but both are really slick.

I was about to add in what Grail just mentioned, Jeremy over at LCFabrications does awesome work and has a couple modern Triumphs he built. He is making weld on hardtails for new Bonneville/T100/Thruxton/Scrambler models as well

Does anyone have some insight in getting a small speedo/tach to replace the gigantic stock gauges? I'd ditch them all together, but I'd have issues come inspection time and really despite their size they are useful when trying to avoid the local law enforcement and their radar guns during my commute.

Anybody have more info on this bike? Really digging that seat. I'm guessing it's homemade? Wondering if it's a cut down stock seat pan. The rear tire looks larger then the stock setup. Pretty close to what I'd like to do with my Black Bonnie.

This was a Speedmaster I spotted here at the local dealership.

Bike was formerly owned by PJ, owner of PJ's Triumph here in Albuquerque. The guy who built the bike runs a small shop here in town, and apparently charged somewhere around 10k to do the work (highway robbery imo).

My '07. No biggie yet. Lowered the rear with Emgo shocks for a 70's trump, shortened Z bars, Lucas tail light. Removed the D.O.T. nonsense. Still have to lower the frontend. First thing I did was remove the front fender but I didn't dig it. Something looked "off" to me. Maybe a bigger tire would help. I'll be putting on a mini speedo in a few weeks, working on cleaning up the front end mostly. Ridin' & Rattin' it way too much to chop it.

Not a "New" Bonnie but might as well put this up here. My '67 project. Has a bad case of Harley - Itis right now. Once I get the head straightened out I'll start working on looks.

Did a bit of work on the T100 this weekend.

Grabbed a Scrambler fender off of ebay for $25. After a test fit on the bike I taped it up where I wanted to cut it...
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f216/MattIsgro/IMAG0123.jpg

Grabbed my grinder and threw on a 4.5" cutting disc. Did the rough cut with that and then cleaned up the line with a flap disc...
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f216/MattIsgro/IMAG0125.jpg

I had also grabbed a lucas style tail light, so I drilled some holes for that. I painted where I had made the cuts and drilled the holes, tweaked and remounted the rear wiring harness and mounted the tail light. Here it is compared to the stock rear...
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f216/MattIsgro/IMAG0127.jpg

And mounted on the bike...
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f216/MattIsgro/IMAG0128.jpg
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f216/MattIsgro/IMAG0129.jpg

Next I'll be finding grabbing some small turn signals and mounting them in similarly to what is seen on Brat Style bikes. The plan is to make up some home made brackets.

Finished up my turn signal brackets over the weekend and then got my first few rides of the year in. Took some pics. Up front I mounted my smaller turn signals on the frame using a home made bracket and the horn bolt...
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f216/MattIsgro/IMAG0253.jpg

On the back I made a bracket that straddles the frame and tucks the signals up under the edge of the seat...
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f216/MattIsgro/IMAG0249.jpg

I'm still contemplating painting the housings of the signals black. Make them blend in with the bike more. We shall see. I think they look pretty good right now combined with my chopped rear fender and the lucas tail light. Next up is working with that front fender.

Oh and be careful with those grinders with cutting discs. Mine kicked off of one of the brackets I was making and tried to eat my hand. Luckily it only got a little taste. Karma was on my side with this one. I should have lost a finger. The amazing thing is the disc broke when it made contact with my hand. Complacency = bad. Wear safety gear folks.

Still have to weld in holes from removing the passenger peg supports, side covers are in progress, mount the front fender, I have a rear seat cowl which I just don't know about, Hagon shocks on the way from the UK, and some other speed tuning work to do still. I had the dents pulled from the tank and had it re-shot in the darkest black they make, cut alot of crap off and decided to modify the exhaust instead of the BUB 2 into 2 that was on it. Grabbed some Biltwell trackers and Baxter grips off the shelf, some cool parts from joker and some parts from BellaCorse (http://www.bellacorse.com/)(great service from Mike).

Its a stock chrome rear fender with a Lucas repop taillight, just about a 1/2 inch off the tire. I sold that bike about a year ago. Miss it.

This is my '05 Bonnie Black. It's through a metamorphosis since the Revenge Run. I pulled the fender but might end up giving it a Thruxton bob and putting it back on. I like the idea of it bracing the forks as well as not getting shit in my face. Just pulled the airbox and installed D&Ds. Yesterday I installed the Norman Hyde m-bars. I'm loving it now. It really screams and with the new bars handles awesome! Now I've gotta come up with a solution for those fugly turn signals!

Does anyone know if a bonneville tank will fit directly on an america/speedmaster?

The stock america tank is ridiculously huge, and the plastic dash looks like shit. Any ideas?

If I don't find a straight bolt on, I would prefer to make custom brackets than to cut up the tank. I'm not trying to avoid chopping, I just like to be sure that when I take it apart, I can put it together and ride it later the same day (it's my only running bike).

This was brought up on bonnevilleamerica.com a year or two ago. i believe the guy that did it had to cut the front mounting tabs off the BA frame and used a mallet to massage the bonneville tanks tunnel a little wider accept the wider fram rail. it looked really good. I've thought a lot about doing it myself on my 02 BA.

Grabbed some Biltwell trackers and Baxter grips off the shelf, some cool parts from joker and some parts from BellaCorse (http://www.bellacorse.com/)(great service from Mike).

hey its lookin alot better than last time i saw it hahaha!

what about an OIF tank?

MadDog
06-25-2010, 1:05 AM
I thought of that. The tunnel is pretty wide on an OIF tank. If I find one cheap enough I'll get it and see if I can make it work. I've been looking, but haven't found one in the "so cheap it doesn't matter if it works or not" price range yet. I'll keep my eyes open Sunday at the swap.

Anyone know if it would work? If so, I believe it would look tits.

In our last episode...

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f216/MattIsgro/fender4.jpg

So, it's been a while since I did anything to the Triumph. Last year I chopped the front fender, but that was about the end of it. I've had some ideas in my head, but hadn't moved on them. Until now. My roommate has an XR650 and has had me on a dual sport kick for quite some time. I decided to add some of that influence into my bike. I grabbed some Moto bars from Biltwell, ordered up some Metzler Tourance dual sport tires and started digging into the bike.

I installed the moto bars and started digging in. It was at that point that I realized that I hated the gigantic stock speedo and tach, so off they came.
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f216/MattIsgro/419996_10150581244695829_672925828_9557737_8175459 61_n.jpg

I have a very nice quality mini-speedo that I picked up from Dime City cycles. I'll be installing that on Friday. I started thinning the harness before I got the speedo...
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f216/MattIsgro/photo-6.jpg

I also decided that I wanted to paint my tins. The orange/white color combo is extremely common amongst the New Bonnevilles. I have a background in Aircooled VWs and have always liked the Dove Blue color used in the late 50's and 60's. That's what the tank would be. I brought it up to my friend John's place and he got right to work.

Goodbye orange and white...

I didn't want everything to be blue, so I painted the fenders satin black. I figured this would keep with the dual sport influence. I also visited my buddy Jesse to get my new tires mounted up...
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f216/MattIsgro/photo-1-1.jpg

At this point I still need to pick up the tank, install my new speedo and clean up some other odds and ends. I've also got a simple 3" round mirror on it's way from Licks. What better way to check to see if I'm getting pulled over without having to turn my head.

This is where I stand now and I'm liking where it's going. I'll post up more pics once everything is back together.

damn that is a nice looking bike, how long is the stretch and what size tire is that im prolly gonna go as wide of a tire as i can im think 150 is prolly bout it. 160 might hit the chain i think, i would love to here some specs on that bike

Here is a video of it. At the end of the video, it gives all of the specs. I went with the tire and wheel sizes due to the fact that the stock wheels look really bad with the swingarm stretched. We added 3 inches to the swingarm. Here is the videohttp://youtu.be/EDqTKRzYAUE

Lots of nice bikes here, but man Terry you hit it out of the park! Didn't think you could strip a new bonnie down that clean. You really have me wanting to get one now. My Norton is unreal fun but I wouldn't want to commute on it or go on long trips.

Bringing this back from the grave looking for inspiration... Some great bikes in this thread, any new stuff out there? Pipes, seats, suspension?

Bought an SE earlier this year. Cheap dirt bars, a few Biltwell pieces, DCC gauge bracket, typical stuff through and through. Just tried to slim it down a bit.

nope, that's only on 1969 and before Harley's that don't have any frame numbers.

Everything else is registered as to what the frame numbers says it is,

you can put a Yamaha motor in a 1969 Triumph frame and it will still be a 69 Triumph.

Thanks, its a LC Fab hardtail and I have all that bs hidden in an ammo box. I plan on redoing that this winter possibly in a fake oil bag. Still need to hook up my rear brake as well but been too busy riding the thing. If yours is carbed then go for it. Mines efi so its an extra pain in the ass..

Fuck man, I think between this thread and talking to my buddy today I think I've been convinced, plus I think I will be awesome just to throw it in the faces of a bunch of the elitist fuckheads at triumphrat.net. I just shot LC Fab an email requesting more info on their hardtails and the wiring harness diagram they provide. I have a feeling this will be a 2 stage project, the rear this winter and the frontend next winter. Beside the new seat, fender, brake light, license plate, chain, battery mount and a place to hide all the damn wiring, is there anything else that you needed to get the bike on the road? I hope you understand what you've done b/c I'm probably going to be picking your brain a bit here and there.

There may be hardtails coming out for americas within a year from now. Not to take anything away from hardtailing a bonne, but a america would be less then half the work. And you can find them used for a few grand.

Always fun when you find a simple $30 part, thinking it's a no-brainer, then spend a shit-ton more to make it happen.

Couple months ago I grabbed the DCC gauge bracket and LED's. Without dropping the headlight it was too low, so I used some spacers. Could have left it alone, but it was bugging me. Last week I found a deal on some used low-pro ears and installed them yesterday.

Along with the ears I did fork gaiters, Joker ignition bracket and blacked out the headlight bucket. That little $30 bracket costs about 4x that.

Good job by mgpauls on tastefully cleaning and slimming what started as a bloated and homely stocker. I don't usually like whitewalls but the white/gray/chrome balance visually lightens the whole motorcycle.

The subtle shit pays off.

Not too many mods. Bitwell trackers/kungfu grips. Found an SE rear fender on ebay. Going to change out the taillight/blinkers next and remove the airbox.
