View Full Version : BSA engine rebuild budget?

just curious if anyone might know what it would cost me to get my bsa a65 rebuilt.
i got the motor with no idea of the history, have opened up the side covers, rocker cover and it looks crazy clean...it moves pretty freely too.
i know the cost would vary on a complete rebuild or just a top end rebuild..
i also know that location/shops run different rates..

but if anyone could give me a ballpark figure that would be swell
need to see how much i should start putting back to have it done.

i could do it myself, sure.
but i really have no experience in the british engine department or the tools i would need.
don't want to royally screw it up.

Just had the top end done on mine. Gasket surface milled and flatened, 1 new valve, 4 new guides, bead blasted, seats cut, and leak tested. Cost me $400. I bought a gasket kit, seal kit, and rings off ebay all for $82. Like yours, super clean, everything moved freely, but I want it to run right. But I'm doing the rest myself (I hope!). Next up is new bearings at around $50 and hone the bores just to clean the surface rust off $?.

Hope this gives you some idea, good luck.
